Free Webinar: Make a Lasting Impact with Specialized Foster Care- Feb. 10th

January 21, 2025

Join Oklahoma Human Services for a free webinar on Feb. 10, which will provide an overview of specialized foster care, (SFC) including:

  • Role of an SFC parent
  • SFC requirements
  • Benefits of becoming an SFC parent
  • Q&A

Specialized foster parents support individuals ages 3 and up who receive DDS waiver services. An SFC parent is paid to be a “professional parent” and is supported by a DDS case manager, a foster care specialist, and any other professional providers working with the individual in your home. Experience with people with intellectual or developmental disabilities can be helpful but is not required.

To become an SFC parent, you must:

  • Be at least 21 years old
  • Be able to stay at home as a “professional parent”
  • Submit information for background checks and fingerprints
  • Complete training prior to approval as an SFC parent and yearly training thereafter
  • Participate in a home study
  • Provide an individual bedroom for each person served through SFC
